Quality of Life

Personifying the buzz words "quality of life," Phillips County hopes to make you become a believer. The recent tragedies in our country have again reminded us of those things we hold dear. We believe our rural peaceful life is one of those things.

With the "big city" only two hours away, we have the opportunity to enjoy wide open spaces, traditional values, no traffic congestion, cutting edge technology, high quality schools, recreational opportunities and, most importantly, sunsets and stars.

Sitting back and relaxing, enjoying the fresh air and peace and quiet, or getting involved in local charities or organizations. All of this and more make up the special quality of life residents enjoy in Phillips County. With reasonable costs of living, quality amenities and time for your favorite hobbies, it's a great place for all ages to live, entertain and rejoice in life.

We welcome you to our quality of life-please join our small-town families.

Safety\Security
A feeling of safety and security is felt in Phillips County, as it is served by a full-time sheriff's department alongside both Haxtun and Holyoke's full-time local forces. The communities are also served by local EMT's with ambulance service and dedicated volunteer fire departments.

Parks

Holyoke Playground

Our "tree City USA" welcomes you to luscious green grass, playground equipment, room to roam and several recreational activities.

Museum
Phillips County Historical Society and Museum is definitely worth a visit. First organized in 1967 to record the past and keep a promise for the future generations, this active group has created a wonderful collection. In addition to the museum, the society hosts programs such as a quilt show and doll shows, as well as producing a history book, "Those Were the Days".

Golf Courses

There is nothing like a rural 9-hole golf course. The F&H Golf Course near Haxtun offers you the opportunity to understand the plains in its rustic beauty. Holyoke's Golf Course started with the humble beginning of a small sand course and has emerged into a beautiful green grass course.

Fishing/Boating
Both the Gun Club Lake and Lions' Club Fishin' Pond offer the family a beautiful environment to catch a few fish. If you're looking for bigger waters, they are located within an hour's drive for fishing, boating, and skiing. You need only drive as far as Sterling to find North Sterling Reservoir, to Enders, NE for Enders Lake or to Ogallala, NE to enjoy Lake McConaughy.

Hunting
Pheasant, coyote, deer, duck, geese or dove, pick your passion. After recently becoming nationally recognized by Pheasants Forever, Phillips County truly has wonderful habitat for pheasant hunting, and offers opportunity for all these others, as well.

Event Centers

Haxtun Community Center

Collaboration is the word for these buildings. With a strong sense of pride and personal ownership, the Haxtun Community Center, the SunSet View Community Center, and the Peerless Center were built to provide locations for family gatherings, meetings, and community functions.

Will Heginbotham Trust
Established by a longtime resident and banker upon his passing in 1968, this trust was created for “the general betterment and improvement of the people of Phillips County.” The generous action of Mr. Heginbotham has been evident to the communities of Phillips County and it's apparent that his generosity will
