This
small community with its 75 residents is the ultimate
country and rural family setting. Located on Highway 23, nine miles Northeast
of Holyoke, the Amherst Cooperative Elevators indicate the mainstay
of
the local economy - the abundance of crop production. The elevator has
a grain storage capacity of 7 million bushels and is the largest grain
facility between Denver and Omaha. One of Amherst's great supporters is the local volunteer fire department.
